My name is Daniel Saydkhuzhin. I am pursuing my M.S in geosciences at UNCW. I previously received a B.S in mathematics from UMass Amherst, where I also minored in geology. I worked in the micropaleontology and electron microprobe labs. I’m originally from Miami, FL and grew up going to The Everglades and the beach all the time. I regularly rock climb, bike ride, and hike. My goal beyond UNCW is to be able to develop a career mitigating climate change related hazards, being able to use math, and still get to spend some time in the outdoors.

I’m excited to be working with the COAST Lab on the Ghost Forest project. We will be looking at salinity levels and tree health over time around Smith Creek, the Cape Fear River, and hopefully other tributaries. If I’m not working or studying, I’m posted up at a coffee shop, playing Catan, prepping for a D&D campaign, reading, or tutoring K-12 students in math and science.
